DESCRIPTION
The CHL8510 is a high performance N-channel MOSFET gate driver specially designed to interface with the CHiL digital multiphase PWM controllers for server and gamer/ overclocking applications. Its features are designed to deliver best in class performance and system efficiency.
The large low and high side gate drivers of CHL8510 enable rapid switching of both the large input capacitance ( up to 6nF) and low Rds_on MOSFETs in a synchronous buck power converter. The low side drive is designed for a 6A sink current.
The CHL8510 allows independent control of both high and low side gate drive voltages from 4.5V to 13.5V. When used with the VGD (Variable Gate Drive) technology of CHiL digital controllers, it optimizes system efficiency across the output load range. CHL8510 supports two selectable PWM modes of operation - the unique patented CHiL ATL (Active Tri-Level) and the generic tristate PWM voltage signals. Both the PWM modes eliminate the need for a dedicated disable pin. The CHiL ATL mode does not require a PWM hold-off time and therefore provides rapid disable of driver outputs. This delivers improved performance during load transients and increased VR efficiency; especially in the power saving PSI mode. Propagation and transition times are less than 20ns for each driver into a 6nF load.
An integrated boot diode reduces external component count. CHL8510 features an advanced variable adaptive non-overlap control providing shoot-through protection. This prevents cross conduction of high-side and low-side MOSFETs while minimizes the body diode conduction time and provides best in class efficiency.
